  • How does MLDC communicate with parents?
We utilize email to communicate with parents regarding any news or updates. We also send out an email with a quarterly newsletter. Should classes be canceled due to inclement weather, you will be emailed and a notice will also be left on our answering machine.
  • Should I stay at the studio while my child is in class?
While we have a waiting area, you do not need to stay while your child is in class. Your child is in great hands! This is the perfect time to run an errand, go to the gym (Crunch is right in the plaza), or simply have alone time! All we ask is that you are on time to pick up your child so they don't worry about you!
  • What should my child wear for class? Where do I get their attire?
You can find out what your child needs to wear for their class by visiting our attire page HERE. All shoes, leotards, and tights can be purchased directly at the studio. This is the best way to ensure you have the correct color shoes and tights!
  • Are there any recitals or performances?
Yes! We have an end-of-the-year recital in the spring, which we call "Concert". Mary Lorraine's Dance Center's annual concerts are unlike any other dance schools' in Omaha. Our themed recitals offer dancers a way to show their yearly hard work in a beautiful and entertaining show. Depending on your child's age they will either perform in "DanceFest" or the "Big Show" which are performed at a local high school theater. Find out more HERE. In addition, we have a casual in-studio holiday performance in December where dancers perform a short holiday dance for parents. Parents are also invited to sit in on class at the end of each quarter for Visitor's Week. This is an opportunity for you to see your child in action in the class setting!
  • How much do classes cost?
Mary Lorraine's Dance Center prides itself in providing quality dance at affordable rates. Prices are quarterly (4 times per year). There are 8 weeks of classes per quarter. Each class meets once per week. Classes start at $92 for 8 weeks for a 45 minute class and increase according to length of the class. You can find all the tuition rates HERE.
  • How do I know what level my child should take?
Levels for ballet/tap coordinate with school grade. For example, level 1 = 1st grade. Other styles the recommended age is indicated on the schedule page. Dancers older than six years old who are new to our program, please call for an evaluation for proper placement. Call 402-593-9051 or email mldancecenter@gmail.com.
  • Do competition dancers have separate classes?
Our recreational and competitive dancers dance together in their weekly classes. We believe this creates a cohesive studio environment where all dancers are important regardless of whether they are on our competition team. Our competitive dancers take their additional technique classes and rehearsals on Saturdays.
  • Do boys dance? If so, do they have their own class?
Yes, boys dance! We hope the days of "boys don't dance" are over. We have had so many wonderful boys, who become amazing young men, train at MLDC. Our classes are all mixed gender. We are committed to using movement, music, and costuming that make our boys feel included, comfortable, and confident.
  • Are the costumes age appropriate?
Mary Lorraine's Dance Center prides itself in using age-appropriate costumes, music, and movement. Costumes always cover the child's stomach and tights are always worn.
  • Why do you combine ballet and tap as one class?
For younger children the combination of ballet and tap in a dance class allows the children to experience both subjects while gaining skills that can be used in both. Ballet offers discipline, strength holding positions of arms and one’s core, spotting technique (used to not get dizzy in turns) and coordination for the use of both upper and lower body at the same time. Tap offers learning how to dance on the beat, musicality and being able to have expressive freedom while dancing. Because of its fast pace it also allows dancers to develop quick thinking.
  • Why does my child need to take ballet in order to take contemporary/lyrical or jazz?
Jazz, contemporary, and many other dance styles are rooted in ballet. Ballet provides the foundation dancers need in order to succeed in other styles. Ballet steps are found all throughout contemporary and jazz movement and therefore a dancer without ballet will struggle. Ballet also provides training in correct posture and alignment as well as the strength and coordination needed to execute contemporary and jazz movement.
